Beschreibung
The goal of the LAPO project (Language Policy and Linguistic Justice in the European Union) is to address the question of the distributive consequences of a change in the current EU language regime and to estimate them using data published by Eurostat. First, we explore whether a statistically significant correlation between the language skills of EU residents and their socio-economic status can be established. Second, we examine the relationship between the type of occupation of European residents, the economic sector in which they work and their linguistic skills. The main result of the analysis is to identify which social and economic groups would be particularly disadvantaged by a reduction in the number of working languages of the EU. The outcome of the analysis will be used to provide policy recommendations about the current multilingual policy of the EU.

Beschreibung
The goal of this pilot project is to explore the different normative and socio-economic dimensions of the concept of linguistic justice by providing an up-to-date overview of the literature in this interdisciplinary field of research. The project will also identify some key dimensions that characterize linguistic justice and to propose some general indicators to operationalize them. The project has been supported by Esperantic Studies Foundation <www.esperantic.org/en>.
