Research Group Economics and Language (REAL)

The members of the research group “Economics and Language“ (REAL) are Bengt-Arne Wickström, Michele Gazzola, and Torsten Templin. The REAL group is currently attached to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The members of REAL are part of the interdisciplinary MIME project (“Mobility and Inclusion in a Multilingual Europe”), funded by the European Commission (7th Framework Programme). Furthermore, the group organised the conference "The Economics of Language Policy“ in 2013 and the symposium “Economics, Linguistic Justice and Language Policy“ in 2015. The research group develops and applies the economics approach and policy-analysis methods to language-related issues. Research interests include language dynamics, language policy evaluation, economics of language, and language rights.
